What do you say...
to someone who you just found out is expecting? Is "Congratulations on getting knocked up!" crude and inappropriate? I'm not familiar with the proper vernacular in these situations. The birth is expected, so I'm not going to go with, "Oops!" I'm also not good in situations where someone just found out a friend or family member has died or is dying. "That sucks" comes to mind, but I never say it. I kind of just let the silence linger til the other person continues with whatever they are saying. "Can I buy you a drink?" works in some situations, I think. It definitely doesn't work with the whole expecting thing though.
