13 Goals for '13

It's that time again- Resolution Time! I wasn't keeping up with the blog last year at this time, so I don't remember any of my 2012 resolutions or if I kept them. Probably not. But that's the beauty of the new year right? Screw last year, everything starts fresh this year.

1. Join a gym. I need to start exercising more, but I don't want to set the bar too high. Just joining a gym will be fine. If that happens, you know the exercise will come, because I'm that type of guy that thinks, well crap, I'm paying for it, I should go.

2. Be more consistent in my diet. Right now I'm on a roller coaster ride. From trying out vegan crap to stuffing my face during the holidays and everything in between, I really just need to sit down and figure it all out. I guess in the back of my mind I have three eating related goals: be a weekday vegetarian, stop eating out so much, and cut down/out dairy products (I love you cheese, but you have to go).

3. Stop Cut down on drinking alcohol. I waste too much money at the bar. I could use that money for something useful. Like gambling. I wonder if I can go the whole month of January without drinking. Sounds unlikely. I'm going to need odds to take that bet.

4. Hopefully, with those first three goals, I can lose about 25-30 pounds. I need to be healthy. I'm a role model these days.

5. Make more small talk. I don't like being social. And I don't really care about your day. But most people don't like me, so maybe this will help with that. And if I could just start remembering people's names.

6. Get out of bed when I'm supposed to. Yeah, so I'm writing this in bed right now (see previous post), but how many times have I hit that snooze button this year? I need to make the snooze button off limits. Go to bed and at a decent time. Wake up when I'm supposed to.

7. Stop buying unneeded crap just because it's on sale. The other day I hit up Kohl's and came home with 4 hoodies, 3 dress shirts, and 2 T-shirts. Did I need them? No. But they were on sale! I paid $50 for all that. Excellent price. Ugh. I already have too many clothes. That despite giving away 2 boxes full of crap before moving a couple months ago.

8. Learn to make more Filipino food. Over Thanksgiving my mom taught me her adobo recipe. Now I need to learn pancit and lumpia and what ever else I can. Embrace my heritage. And cut down on the 800 miles of travel just to get it like mom used to make.

9. Teach Colsen to ride a bike. I never actually learned until I was 7. But kids grow up fast these days. It's going to be quite a challenge. He still needs a push just to ride his bike with the training wheels on.

10. Write more letters. I sent a lot of post cards this year. That's fun and I'm going to keep doing that. But it's time to go beyond, "Wish you were here!" I should get some personalized letterhead. Do they still make that? And a Cross pen. Does anyone out there write letters anymore? Give me your address if you want a letter from me.

11. Start hacking away at the credit card debt. Less eating out. Less drinking. Less buying unneeded crap. I'm already well on my way to this one.

12. Get a vacuum and use it. This is already on my shopping list, but this just cements it. I don't have a dog around anymore to eat all the crumbs that fall on the floor, so this is a must have these days.

13. Keep on blogging. I'm going to try to not let this blog die again. There's always something to say. Maybe less Facebook, more blog. Facebook is lazy.
