Devastating Injury

The 6 time defending champion of the 4th of July Hot Dog eating contest, Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi, has injured his jaw. I don't even know how to feel about this. Wow. I don't think I can even watch this year if he's not going to be in it.

Was he maybe training too hard because last year's runner up, Joey Chestnutt, broke Kobayashi's record (53 3/4) by devouring 59 hot dogs in a warm up event last weekend?

Has anyone ever seen the hot dog eating contest? I think it comes on ESPN on the 4th of July every year. These people just wolf down hot dogs, bun included. It's craziness.

And sportsbooks put odds on it. This recent injury to the Tsunami is really going to favor Chestnutt. And the rest of the field is 20-1? This isn't some fat, hungry sucka somewhere that can compete?

I don't even like hot dogs. Getting one down is a struggle for me.

And these guys all train for this. I imagine them going to random picnics with their head bands and wrist bands on, stretching out in front of the grill. Then they eat all your hot dogs. And then they guy at the back of the line is like, "Ah man, I knew I should have jumped in line instead of playing frisbee with the dog!"

So don't invite professional hot dog eaters to your 4th of July barbecue. That is, if you want to eat some of the hot dogs.
