Sandals

I was looking at my profile pic here. It's kind of funny to me now. The picture was taken on the hottest day of the year in Shakopee, Minnesota in the summer of 98. I was wearing socks on the hottest day of the year.

I spent part of my childhood in the Philippines. Everyday I would wear flip flops. Well, except for when I was going through my snow boot phase (don't ask why a kid in the Philippines would wear snow boots because I don't know what the hell I was thinking. At this time I also ate play-doh and aspired to be a galactic warrior when I grew up). When I moved to Ohio I stopped wearing flip flops (and snow boots, which again doesn't make sense). In high school I started wearing sandals. All the cool kids had a pair of blue Fila sandals (the only sandals available at the BX, but they matched our school colors). But I only wore those with socks. Yes, I wore sandals with socks. It was until the summer after this profile pic was taken that I started wearing sandals without socks. A radio dj, Tone E Fly I think his name was, said, "Why do Minnesota guys wear socks with their sandals? That's just ridiculous." And I thought to myself, Tone E Fly is right. That is why he is so fly. And that is why I don't wear socks with my sandals.
